SHWA(UK) now has its own charity wristbands for sale at Events/Fundraisers etc. They will retail at £1.00p each and we hope they'll prove very popular.

January 2011

The Kennel Club Charitable Trust has kindly donated £2000 to SHWA(UK) so that we can extend our services to include nationwide microchipping. See the KC Press Release HERE

This is our implementation plan for this new service:

bullet Four staff members are already trained in microchipping – one in Kent, one in Hampshire, one in  Yorkshire  and one in Northumberland.
bullet At least another four members of staff will be trained in microchipping within the next few months.
bullet Once all the staff members are trained and certificated, SHWA will purchase chipping guns, scanners and a supply of chips for each trained “chipper.”

bullet Through our website, forum and facebook page, we will encourage Siberian Husky owners with unchipped dogs, to contact their nearest SHWA chipper and have their dogs chipped – this will then become an ongoing proactive programme.

bullet Each year we participate in a number of high profile fundraising opportunities at a variety of big dog-related events. Due to the generosity of the KCCT grant, we will now be in a position to offer microchipping to husky owners at these events. Events planned so far this year are detailed on our website “Events” page (http://www.shwauk.org.uk/events.htm ). We are usually involved in about 12 of these big events each year and more will be added to the website as they are confirmed. Apart from the first event (BCA – where the only huskies present are usually ours) all the events will have our microchipping service present.

bullet Between now and the Autumn, SHWA will be hosting three area seminars - training/taster days – one in the South, one in the  Midlands and one in the North. These will be aimed at new and/or prospective husky owners in areas where we know from experience that puppy farmers, backyard breeders and naïve/greedy “pet” breeders are extremely active. The days will have several aspects to them:

·        A general Information aspect

 ·        A health and nutrition aspect (the importance of correct nutrition, health testing etc) – one of our volunteers/sponsors is a nutritionist.

·        An “exercise” aspect – racing, scootering, caniX etc etc

·        Buying a puppy – with emphasis on how to ascertain that you are dealing with an ethical breeder.

·        Owner Support

·        Microchipping for unchipped dogs

We confidently expect that, thanks to the KCCT grant, we will not only enable hundreds of owners to microchip their dogs, but will also, through their contact with us, enable them to learn more about the care of their dogs and will help minimise the numbers of people breeding random litters without thought for the consequences.

September 2010

It is with deep sorrow that I have to report the sudden, unexpected death of a great friend of SHWA(UK) - Nigel Holliday. Nigel and his wife Anita run Lionslord Pet Nutrition and have been great supporters of the association over the past three years by providing us with subsidised food, and excellent nutritional advice. Nigel's funeral was held last Wednesday (22nd September) and was attended by almost 200 friends from all over the world. SHWA presented Anita with two portraits of Nigel as a token of our respect and fondness. Nigel's funeral procession was given a guard of honour made up of dogs from his chosen breed (Leonbergers) although we also had Mya - A rescue Sibe - in pride of place representing SHWA and all the dogs that Nigel and Anita have enabled us to help.

Our thoughts are with Anita, Steph, Tyler and Sam

Much loved - much missed - Always remembered
